A powerful one-day fiction writing workshop with Valerie Parv
The best magic baffles as to how it’s done, letting you sit back and enjoy the ride. So it is with the best fiction. This workshop deconstructs 5 spellbinding techniques to engage readers until the very last page. It suits all writers from emerging to advanced, as well as all fiction from genre to literary.
Through enjoyable interaction and fun writing sessions, we’ll explore:
- How mysterious marks on the screen transmute to a 3D virtual reality experience for readers
- The magic of misdirection – what this means and how it builds better stories
- How to saw a character in half – and make readers care when you do
- A touch of Quidditch – pacing and unexpected twists that keep the reader involved
- The aces up your sleeve – creative methods that have worked for Valerie for over 90 books
Optional – participants are welcome to bring along 200 words (about half a page double spaced) of your own writing, including one brief description, to read and discuss at the workshop.
